Flavors Tried: Fudge, Cookies & Cream Blondie

I’ve always enjoyed Bowmar Nutrition’s products, so I was naturally very excited to give their brownies a try.
This review comes on the heels of my PrimeBites Protein Brownie review, which set the bar incredibly high for protein brownies.
But, given the positive history of Bowmar’s products, I expect them to hold up quite well.
Nutritionally, these protein brownies are pretty much par for the course. Most brownies I’ve come across seem to hover right around 200 calories and 15 grams of protein, so nothing stands out here.
I do always enjoy seeing lower amounts of fiber in a product. Don’t get me wrong, fiber is a great thing to consume, but I get enough of it in my diet that it’s always tough for me to enjoy protein snacks with tons of fiber.
At the time of writing this review, Bowmar currently offers a fudge brownie and a cookies & cream blondie, so let’s try them both!
Bowmar Nutrition Fudge Brownie Review
Right out of the package, you can tell that these brownies are not going to be dry.
While they don’t have that crackly top of a dense brownie (I don’t think any protein brownie will ever accomplish that) it’s clear that the interior is going to be plenty moist.
Biting into this brownie did not disappoint.
The texture of this brownie is moist and chewy, which is exactly what you want in a brownie.
There’s no artificial flavor with these brownies either, which is always something I worry about when trying protein snacks.
In terms of flavor, it’s pleasant, but it doesn’t have the rich brownie flavor I was hoping for. In fact, I get lots of vanilla notes in this one.
Since I’ve been baking with protein powder for so long, I find the vanilla protein powder flavor to be very recognizable. For me, this brownie has a similar flavor to vanilla protein powder.
That’s not to say that this doesn’t taste like a chocolate brownie, because it certainly does, but the vanilla flavor comes through too much for me. If it were up to me, it would have a much richer chocolate flavor.
Still, if the only downside is that you can taste vanilla in the brownie, that’s a damn good option.
Bowmar Nutrition Blondie Review
Right off the bat, you can tell that the blondie is cakier than the brownie.
It’s still very moist, but much like Eat Me Guilt Free Blondies, this tastes very similar to pound cake.
Truth be told, this blondie is delicious. It has the perfect pound cake flavor and texture, but it doesn’t really resemble a traditional blondie.
As far as blondies go, I’d want something more similar to a square cookie.
So, while this doesn’t eat like a blondie, I really enjoyed it. If this were sold as protein pound cake, it would be nearly perfect, because I truly enjoyed the flavor and texture that much.
The cookies & cream pieces in this blondie feel like an afterthought, but it seems like I just had a bad draw and only had a few small pieces at the bottom of my blondie.
Still, the flavor of the cookie pieces is exactly what I’d hope they’d taste like, so it’s a nice addition to the blondie.
Overall Thoughts
As far as protein brownies go, Bowmar Nutrition is definitely serving up some really solid options.
The fudge brownie misses slightly in terms of flavor but absolutely nailed the brownie texture and consistency.
The blondie is more cake than it is a blondie, but it tastes like a real-deal pound cake that anybody would be happy to eat.
The negatives here are not enough to deter me, and I’d happily order more of these.
