Bowl of Three Wishes Cereal

As a self-proclaimed cereal expert, I was excited to try out Three Wishes Cereal. I had heard great things from people who had tried this cereal before, so I had pretty high expectations.

Three Wishes Cereal isn’t necessarily marketed as a protein cereal, rather mostly as a grain-free cereal. Still, with much more protein than your normal breakfast cereals, this definitely qualifies as a high-protein treat.

Not only is this cereal grain-free, gluten-free, and low in sugar, but the ingredients list is also very minimal.

Three Wishes Nutrition Facts

Each cup of this cereal contains just over 100 calories with 8 grams of protein, making it a quality protein option.

You can see the ingredients for the Fruity flavor above, with only 7 ingredients total being listed. If you were to look at the unsweetened flavor, you would see just FOUR ingredients.

With the ingredients being so minimal, paired with the fact that this is a plant-based cereal, I realized I needed to adjust my expectations a bit. Surely this wouldn’t taste as good as something like Magic Spoon, but based on the rave reviews, it must taste better than it sounds.

I got my hands on a variety pack and tried all four flavors: Unsweetened, Cinnamon, Cocoa, and Honey. After trying those initial flavors, I went back to the store to try the Fruity flavor as well. Here’s what I thought of each one.

Unsweetened Three Wishes Cereal

I started with the Unsweetened flavor, which I expected to be better with milk. As a cereal with minimal ingredients, I didn’t expect a whole lot of flavor here.

The taste was plain, as expected, and it was indeed significantly better when I added milk. The Earthiness of the plant protein definitely comes through, but it isn’t nearly as strong as I thought it would be.

Once added to milk, that plant protein flavor definitely dulls down a bit, but it does still come through.

While it’s not my favorite, I can appreciate it as a good starting point for those who prefer unsweetened cereals.

Fruity Three Wishes Cereal

Three Wishes Cereal Review

When you open up a box of Fruity Three Wishes Cereal, it smells very much like fruity cereal you know and love.

While I wouldn’t compare it to Fruity Pebbles, I find is extremely similar to Trix, both in smell and flavor.

Unlike the unsweetened flavor, I’d happily eat this fruity cereal dry. The fruit flavor really comes through, and the Earthiness of the plant protein is very minimal in this one.

However, this flavor is definitely better in milk as well. That’s probably to be expected with most cereal, but I find the flavor to be improved with milk. Plus, while this cereal is super crunchy on its own, it does get a little bit soft in milk, which I actually prefer.

Mixed Three Wishes Cereal

One of my favorite things to do with this cereal (and any protein cereal, for that matter) is mix it up with a little bit of another cereal. In this case, I mixed the Fruity Three Wishes Cereal with some Special K Red Berries, and it made for an incredible bowl of cereal.

Cinnamon Three Wishes Cereal

The smell of the Cinnamon flavor reminded me of Cinnabon cereal, which totally caught me by surprise. As a healthy cereal with very few ingredients, I did not expect it to smell nearly as sweet as it did.

This cereal doesn’t taste as sweet as it smells, but that cinnamon flavor definitely comes through. It doesn’t taste like Cinnamon Toast Crunch, but rather much more like real cinnamon. For many people, that’s probably preferred.

Like the other flavors, cinnamon tasted better in milk for me. On its own, you definitely taste the plant protein, but the milk helps to mask that flavor. The cinnamon cereal won’t punch you in the face with flavor, but fans of cinnamon won’t be disappointed.

Honey Three Wishes Cereal

The Honey flavor was the sweetest of the bunch, and it actually tasted a lot like Honeycomb cereal.

I have a huge sweet tooth, so this one was right up my alley. If you aren’t a fan of sugary breakfast cereal, you may want to opt for a different flavor, but if you’re in search of something to curb your sweet tooth, this flavor definitely delivers.

It isn’t an over-the-top sweetness, but you get a taste of real honey that is just delicious.

To the surprise of nobody, this flavor tastes even better in milk. In fact, I’d go as far as to say that I like this cereal with milk even more than I like Honeycomb cereal!

Cocoa Three Wishes Cereal

The smell of the cocoa flavor is exactly what you’d hope for, and you’re immediately hit with a wave of dark chocolate.

As a dry cereal, the cocoa flavor was the crunchiest of all the flavors. If you enjoy eating your cereal dry, my vote for the best option would be this cocoa flavor. Not only due to the crunch, but the rich chocolate flavor.

Unfortunately, this cereal didn’t leave a ton of chocolate milk behind (which is one of the best parts of any chocolate cereal) but that is made up for by just how good this flavor is with milk.

The slight bitterness you get from the dark chocolate is balanced out perfectly in milk, making this one easily one of my favorites.

Three Wishes Cereal: Overall Thoughts

Holding three wishes cereal

Overall, Three Wishes Cereal really surprised me. Since it is plant-based and contains very few ingredients, I didn’t expect the cereal to taste nearly as good as it does.

As someone who isn’t plant-based or gluten-free, I still very much enjoy this cereal.

I don’t think it tastes as good as something like Magic Spoon (my favorite protein cereal), but it’s a quality option.

You do need to temper your expectations slightly: there’s a slight Earthiness to all of the flavors due to the plant protein, so if you’ve never experienced that flavor before, it may take some getting used to.

But if you’re used to plant-based protein, especially if you are also gluten-free, then trying Three Wishes should be a no-brainer.

My personal ranking of Three Wishes would be

5. Unsweetened

4. Cinnamon

3. Fruity

2. Cocoa

1. Honey

I’ll definitely be eating these cereals after this review, and I recommend giving them a try if you’re looking for a healthier cereal option.

REVIEW: Three Wishes Cereal (High-Protein Grain-Free Cereal)
Summary
I really enjoy Three Wishes Cereal, but it definitely tastes a bit more like a "health food" than other options. The flavors are really, and it has a satisfying crunch, but the flavor from the plant-based protein does come through a bit. Even still, I thoroughly enjoy all of the flavors.
